By-laws of VEHICLE CITY GREENS

 

By-laws of the Green Party of Michigan local for the Counties of Genesee and Shiawassee

 

 

ARTICLE I – NAME AND PURPOSE

 

Section 1 – This organization will be called VEHICLE CITY GREENS

 

Section 2 – This organization exists to advance and promote the Four Pillars/Ten Key values of the Green Party of the United States and to function as a local chapter of the Green Party of Michigan.

 

ARTICLE II – MEMBERSHIP

 

Membership is open to people who live in these counties and are members of the GP-MI.

 

 

ARTICLE III – OFFICERS

 

Section I – Contact Person. Per the GP-MI By-laws, this member shall also serve as the representative of the local to the State Central Committee (SCC) and shall be responsible for maintaining the By-laws and the minutes of meetings; reporting quarterly to the GP-MI Locals Liaison of: numbers of members, structure and efforts, voting on matters coming before the SCC, and communicating to members information from the SCC. The term shall be two years.

 

Section 2 – Secondary Representative to the SCC – An additional representative to the SCC shall be elected once this local attains eleven members and may share duties of the Contact Person. As well as being an active member of the SCC, this representative shall serve alternate two year terms from the Contact Person.

 

Section 3 – Funding Co-ordinator – This member shall be responsible for any group monies and for proposals for fund-raising projects and expenditures. The term shall be two years.

 

Section 4 – Media Contact – This member shall be responsible for sending out press releases and for being the official spokesperson for the group in response to media requests. The term shall be one year for the first year, then two years thereafter.

 

Section 5 – Group Leader – The Group Leader sets the meeting agenda, organizes speakers/meeting places and chairs the meetings. The Group Leader will be re-elected on a quarterly basis.

 

ARTICLE IV – SELECTION OF OFFICERS

 

Section 1 – Officers shall be selected at the Annual general meeting held each Spring/Fall or as necessary.

 

Section 2 – If two or more members offer to hold the same office, members shall vote by secret ballot. A majority of votes is needed for election to an office. If more than two persons are on the ballot and no person receives a majority of votes, a run-off election shall be held between the top two votegetters.

 

ARTICLE V – WORKING GROUPS

 

Each officer of the local shall be the Chair of a Working Group, as follows. Fundraising – chaired by the Funding Co-ordinator, Media – chairs by the Media Contact, Community Outreach – chaired by the Group Leader, Elections – Chaired by the Second Rep to the SCC, Recruitment and Membership – Chaired by the Contact Person

 

ARTICLE VI – DECISION-MAKING

 

Section 1 Decisions of the group shall be made through either a consensus of individual members attending a regularly scheduled business meeting or special meeting, or by a majority vote of the members present in the absence of a consensus.

 

Section 2 – Officers shall make day-to-day decisions in their respective areas of responsibility and are encouraged to solicit input from members.

 

ARTICLE VII – MEETINGS

 

Section 1 – Meetings shall be held monthly except for July and December. A social gathering may be held instead of a regular meeting in July and December.

 

Section 2 – Special meetings may be held when deemed necessary by at least 2 of the officers. Notice of thius special meeting shall be given to members At least 7 days prior to the special meeting.

 

ARTICLE VIII – AMENDMENTS TO BY-LAWS

 

The By-Laws may be amended by a two thirds vote of those attending a special meeting after thirty days' notice has been given of the amendment to be voted upon.
